These certifications are granted lifetime validity; however, to ensure the continued competence and ethical standards of our certified practitioners, a recertification process has been implemented. All certificate holders are required to complete a 2-hour online ethics recertification course every 3 years.
Ethics Recertification Policy

This Ethics Recertification Policy outlines the requirements, procedures, and consequences related to maintaining the Certified Practitioner in Human Resources (CPHR®) and Certified HR Business Partner (cHRBP®) certifications issued by CPHR International. These certifications are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated their expertise, professionalism, and commitment to the field of human resources. To ensure the continued relevance and ethical standing of our certified practitioners, adherence to this policy is mandatory.
2. Recertification Requirement:
2.1 Frequency: Certificants are required to complete an ethics recertification course once every 3 years, starting from the date of their initial certification.
2.2 Course Content: The online ethics recertification course is designed to address current ethical considerations, challenges, and best practices within the human resources profession. The course content will encompass a wide range of topics, including ethical decision-making, conflict of interest, confidentiality, diversity and inclusion, and more.
2.3 Course Duration: The ethics recertification course will have a duration of approximately 2 hours.
2.4 Access: Certificants will have access to the online ethics recertification course through their myCPHR portal.
2.5 Completion Confirmation: Upon successful completion of the ethics recertification course, certified practitioners will receive a confirmation of recertification, validating their commitment to upholding ethical standards.
3. Ethics Compliance:
3.1 Ethical Obligations: As holders of the Certified Practitioner in Human Resources (CPHR®) or Certified HR Business Partner (cHRBP®) certifications, certificants are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards in their professional conduct. This includes demonstrating integrity, fairness, and accountability in all aspects of their HR-related activities.
3.2 Non-Compliance Consequences: Failure to complete the ethics recertification course within the designated timeframe will result in the following consequences:
3.2.1 Grace Period: Certified practitioners will be granted a grace period of 90 days from the recertification deadline to successfully complete the ethics course without any impact on their certification status.
3.2.2 Revocation of Benefits: If the ethics recertification course is not completed within the grace period, the certificants may lose access to their myCPHR account as well as to the list of certified professionals. Their certificate number may no longer be verifiable and CPHR International issued professional email may be deactivated.
4. Recertification Process:
4.1 Notification: Certificants will receive timely notifications and reminders via their myCPHR account and through email regarding their upcoming ethics recertification deadline. It is the responsibility of the certificant to ensure that their contact information is up to date to receive these communications.
4.2 Access to Course: Upon the commencement of the recertification period, certtificants will be provided with access to the online ethics recertification course through myCPHR. The course will be available for completion at the certificant’s convenience during the designated time frame.
4.3 Assessment: The ethics recertification course will involve an assessment to gauge the certificant’s understanding of the ethical concepts presented. Successful completion of the assessment is necessary to achieve recertification.
4.4 Confirmation of Recertification: Certified practitioners who successfully complete the ethics recertification course will receive official confirmation of their recertification status. This confirmation serves as documentation of the individual’s commitment to ethical professionalism within the field of human resources.
5. Recertification Fees:
5.1 No Charge: We are committed to fostering the growth and development of our certified practitioners. Therefore, there is no charge for the ethics recertification course.
6. Appeals and Grievances:
6.1 Appeals Process: Certificants have the right to appeal the revocation of their certification on grounds of extenuating circumstances or technical difficulties. Appeals should be submitted in writing within 30 days of receiving the revocation notice. The decision of the appeals committee will be final.
